Crypto.com is changing two Crypto.com card fees on October 1, 2026. The paid Ruby Steel, Jade Green and Royal Indigo tiers will start paying a foreign transaction fee that only the free Midnight card carried before, and the monthly fee on an unused card goes up by one unit of currency. This guide gives the exact numbers from Crypto.com's own Help Center, works through examples, and shows what you can do about it before the change lands.

Scope: the changes below are published on the Europe and UK fee sheets (euro amounts in Europe, pound amounts in the UK). Crypto.com keeps separate fee pages for other regions, and we have not verified any change there.

Quick Summary

  • The new fees start on October 1, 2026. Until September 30 the current fee sheet applies.
  • Ruby Steel: no foreign transaction fee today. From October 1: 0.2% within the EU and UK, and outside the EU and UK free up to 400 per month, then 2.0%.
  • Jade Green and Royal Indigo: same structure with an 800 per month allowance.
  • Midnight keeps its existing 0.2% (EU/UK) and 2.0% (outside) fees. The higher tiers are listed with no foreign transaction fee.
  • Inactivity fee: 5 becomes 6 per month after 12 months without cardholder-initiated activity.

What Is Changing on October 1

Two lines of the Crypto.com prepaid Visa fee sheet change. The first extends the foreign transaction fee to three paid tiers. The second raises the inactivity fee. Here is the foreign transaction fee before and after, as published in the Help Center.

The Help Center defines what counts as a foreign transaction on each fee sheet, so read it for your card currency before you rely on the 0.2% figure for spending inside the EU and UK.

The New Foreign Transaction Fee, in Numbers

The outside-EU/UK allowance is monthly and the 2.0% fee applies only to the part above it. The table below is our own arithmetic on the published rates, shown in euros (the UK sheet works the same way in pounds). It covers spending outside the EU and UK only.

Fee in euros on one month of spending outside the EU and UK, from October 1, 2026 (our calculation from the published rates).

A Ruby holder who spends 1,000 euros outside the EU and UK in a month has 400 free and pays 2.0% on the remaining 600, which is 12 euros. Light travelers stay inside the allowance and pay nothing extra; heavy spenders outside the EU and UK are the ones who feel the change.

The Higher Inactivity Fee

The inactivity fee is charged after 12 months without cardholder-initiated activity on the card. From October 1 it rises from 5 to 6 per month (euros on the Europe sheet, pounds on the UK sheet). Left untouched for a full year that is 72 a year instead of 60. Reporting on the change notes that declined and refunded transactions do not count as activity, so a payment that actually goes through is what keeps a card active.

Who Is Affected (and Who Is Not)

  • Affected most: Ruby Steel, Jade Green and Royal Indigo holders in Europe and the UK who spend heavily outside the EU and UK, above 400 (Ruby) or 800 (Jade, Indigo) a month.
  • Affected slightly: paid-tier holders whose foreign-currency spending falls inside the EU and UK, where the new rate is 0.2%.
  • Affected if idle: anyone with a card that sits unused for a full year.
  • Not affected by the foreign transaction change: Midnight holders and the higher tiers listed as fee-free.
  • Unverified: holders in the United States, Singapore, Brazil and other regions with their own fee pages.

How to Limit the Impact

  1. Check your real spending. Add up a typical month outside the EU and UK. If it sits under your allowance, the new fee costs you nothing.
  2. Price the tier jump. Moving from Ruby to Jade or Indigo doubles the free allowance, but higher tiers depend on CRO staking, so weigh the fee saved against the price risk of holding more CRO.
  3. Keep idle cards alive. If you keep a card as a backup, make one real purchase before the 12-month mark so the inactivity fee never starts.
  4. Watch the calendar month. The allowance resets monthly, so front-loading a big trip's spending into one month uses only one allowance.
  5. Compare before you commit. If most of your spending is abroad, put Crypto.com next to the alternatives: see our Crypto.com vs Bybit Card and Crypto.com vs Wirex Card comparisons, or the wider best crypto debit card guide.

What This Means for Our Crypto.com Card Review

Our Crypto.com Visa Card profile describes 0% FX within tier caps. From October 1 that no longer holds for Ruby Steel, Jade Green and Royal Indigo cards on the Europe and UK sheets once spending goes above the monthly allowance. Fees change without notice, so treat any card profile as a verified snapshot and confirm the current numbers on the issuer's site before you apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do the new Crypto.com card fees start?

The new fees apply from October 1, 2026. Until September 30, 2026 the current fee sheet applies, so paid-tier cards still have no foreign transaction fee.

Does the new foreign transaction fee apply to every Crypto.com card?

No. On the Europe and UK fee sheets, the free Midnight card already had a foreign transaction fee and it does not change. From October 1 the Ruby Steel, Jade Green and Royal Indigo tiers get one too, with a monthly allowance outside the EU and UK. The higher tiers are listed with no foreign transaction fee.

How much is the Crypto.com card inactivity fee?

From October 1, 2026 the inactivity fee rises from 5 to 6 per month (EUR on the Europe sheet, GBP on the UK sheet). It is charged after 12 months with no cardholder-initiated activity on the card.

Do these changes apply to the United States or other regions?

We verified the changes on the Europe and UK fee sheets only. Crypto.com publishes separate fee pages for other regions, so check the Help Center page for your country before assuming anything changes for you.
